Looking for the perfect way to spend a summer evening? Join us at Rowe Sanctuary for Pickin’ on the Platte, where live music, river views, and family-friendly activities come together for a one-of-a-kind experience. Whether you’re a longtime supporter or visiting Rowe for the first time, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

1. Live Music in an Unforgettable Setting

There’s something special about listening to live music surrounded by native prairie, with the Platte River in the background. As the sun begins to set over the Platte River, you’ll enjoy an evening of great performances in one of central Nebraska’s most beautiful outdoor settings.

Local artist Mary Lanka is no stranger to Rowe Sanctuary. She played a beautiful acoustic set for Rowe’s Holiday Open House, and everyone enjoyed her creative mix of jazz, classics, and folk music. We are so excited to welcome Mary back as our opening act.

For our main act, John Depew is back with his punny lyrics, witty sense of humor, and talented skills on the banjo, mandolin, and guitar. Hailing from the prairies of Kansas, John is returning for his third concert at Rowe. Joining Depew this year is multi-instrumentalist Andrew Morris. Andrew has a deep love for traditional American music and brings a colorful approach to storytelling. He likes to combine elements of theater, stand-up, sci-fi, and more into his live performances and musical compositions. Andrew is normally on tour with his group, The Matchsellers, so we’re thrilled to welcome him to the banks of the Platte this year. Together, Depew & Morris, with their shared love of traditional bluegrass, create an energetic and wide-ranging duo that loves to have fun. And we’re thrilled to have them!

2. Make It an Evening Adventure

This year’s event offers more than just music. Before the concert, join one of our guided prairie hikes to learn about the plants, wildlife, and conservation efforts that make Rowe Sanctuary so unique. Wander the grounds, take in the scenery, and discover the beauty of the prairie as it transitions into evening.

Looking for a little extra fun? Challenge someone to one of our many yard games or stop by our photo booth to capture memories from your night at Rowe. However you choose to spend the evening, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to relax, play, and make lasting memories.

3. Great Food and Drinks

Come hungry! This year, we’re excited to welcome Gibbon’s own Pistoleros food truck, serving delicious eats throughout the evening. Adults can also enjoy beverages from our bar, located in our Education Center, while relaxing with friends and family.

4. A Family-Friendly Night Outdoors

Pickin’ on the Platte is designed to be enjoyed by all ages. Spread out a blanket or bring your favorite lawn chair, let the kids enjoy the activities, and spend quality time together in nature. It’s the perfect opportunity to unplug from busy schedules and create a new family tradition.

5. Every Ticket Supports Conservation

When you attend Pickin’ on the Platte, you’re doing more than enjoying a great concert. You’re helping support Rowe Sanctuary’s mission of conserving the Platte River ecosystem while connecting people with nature through education and outreach. Your attendance helps make programs like this possible and supports conservation efforts that benefit wildlife and our local communities.

Join Us for an Evening to Remember
These are just five of the many reasons to spend your evening at Pickin’ on the Platte. Some of the best moments can’t be captured on a list—like the laughter shared among friends, watching the sunset across the prairie, and simply having the chance to slow down and feel gratitude for this place we call home.
