Copper and stainless steel still at the Lost Woods distillery

Wildly crafted.

An American Single Malt Whiskey is produced at a single U.S. distillery from a mash of 100% malted barley, distilled to no more than 160 proof, matured in oak casks, and bottled at 80 proof or higher.

How it's made

From Minnesota barley to your glass

One distillery, 100% malted barley, and four steps we refuse to rush.

Filling the mash at the distillery01 · The grain

So much depends on the grain

The first markers of quality show at grain selection, which is why we only use quality, locally grown barley. Once harvested, the barley is ground into a fine meal, mixed with water, and cooked until the starches convert into sugars. Then yeast turns those sugars into alcohol.

Keep it hot

What's left is a fermented mash, also known as beer. It's pumped into the still and heated, where evaporation and condensation separate the alcohol from the water and grain.

Give it time

Next, the whiskey ages. Our techniques significantly cut down the amount of American White Oak needed, getting more out of the wood for less. It's eco-friendly and time effective, and barrel maturation weaves in rich oak and sherry flavors.

Sip away

Once properly aged, our refined, caramel-colored whiskey is bottled and ready to share. All that's left is to pour one around the fire and enjoy.
